Spring 2026 Hires Posting

The Park Library is hiring two first-year SILS graduate students to work 10-20 hours per week through the Spring 2026-2027 academic year (including Summer 2026).

The position involves substantial patron interaction and is a good introduction to work in a small academic library. Our small staff does interdisciplinary reference and instruction, plus a bit of circulation, cataloging, LibGuide creating and updating, and Interlibrary Loan — our graduate assistants have the opportunity to do many different tasks based on their interests and skills.

Position Information

  • Work 10 hours per week at $13.00 per hour, Spring 2026 (training with David and Kathy for the semester).
  • Schedule negotiable during library hours (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday — Friday).
  • Work 15-20 hours per week Summer 2026 through graduation. Pay rate moves to $14.00 per hour starting Fall 2026.

Job Duties

Reference, Instruction, & Circulation

  • Work with undergraduate and graduate students in groups, classes, and individually.
  • Teach students how to use library resources in multiple disciplines.
  • Provide basic reference services (in person and via Zoom and Teams).
  • Create guides, videos, and graphics to provide asynchronous library support.
  • Check out books, cameras and video equipment, and other materials via Sierra and a gear checkout system called Connect2.

Technical & Administrative Tasks

  • Update Park Library’s LibGuides
  • Process on-campus inter-library loans using Illiad and off-campus loans using TRLN.
  • Starting Summer 2026:
    • Help manage Equipment Room gear (cameras, microphones, tripods, etc.).
    • Train new undergraduate student workers.
    • Work with David and undergrads to create social media calendars and content (including #RorythePig🐷), post to our Instagram, and track statistics.

Required Qualifications 

  • First-year graduate student at SILS.
  • Ability to work 15-20 hours on campus in Summer 2026.
  • Curious. Dependable. Responsible.
  • Desire to be helpful, willingness to take on new tasks and learn by doing, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work accurately, paying close attention to detail AND work independently.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Customer service experience strongly preferred.
  • Completed or enrolled in INLS 501 Information Resources and Services (Reference) or INLS 783 Library Instruction.
  • Experience teaching or training others.
  • Familiarity with camera or audio recording equipment.
  • Familiarity with managing a professional social media account.
  • Library work experience not necessary.

The Park Library supports graduate and undergraduate patrons studying journalism, visual communication, advertising, and public relations. We provide reference and instruction services and maintain collections that support courses taught in the Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
